Tooth x-ray

Radiovisiography (RVG) is a digital dental x-ray technique that enables fast and accurate diagnostics with minimal radiation exposure. This technology provides instant image display on the screen, allowing the dentist to quickly analyse the situation and plan the appropriate treatment.

What is a dental x-ray and what is radiovisiography?

A dental x-ray (RTG) uses X-rays to capture images of the teeth and jaws to detect potential issues, while radiovisiography (RVG) is a digital version with lower radiation and faster analysis.

Dental radiovisiography

Dental x-rays or intraoral images show individual teeth in actual size.

Each image captures one tooth or two adjacent teeth.

  • It emits less radiation than a conventional x-ray device

Radiation during digital dental imaging is 95% lower compared to conventional x-ray imaging.
  • Minimal radiation

A single intraoral image (an image of an individual tooth) releases approximately 0.001 mSv of radiation.
  • Enables faster access to image analysis

The image is available within seconds and can be digitally processed on a computer.

What are RVG images used for?

In dentistry, RVG (radiovisiography) is used for:

- Detecting cavities and various pathological conditions such as granulomas, cysts, bone loss, tooth or alveolar bone fractures, and other abnormalities.

- Assessing periodontal status by measuring pocket depth and alveolar bone height.

- In endodontics, RVG allows comparison of root canal images, helps identify obliterated canals, and ensures quality control of root canal fillings.

In addition to RVG images of individual teeth, dentistry also uses panoramic imaging - orthopantomogram - which shows a 2D image of both jaws and teeth, as well as CT scans of the jaws that provide a 3D view.
