Wironit denture

A Wironit denture is a removable dental prosthesis made of a metal alloy and acrylic. It is used to replace multiple missing teeth and relies on the remaining natural teeth for support using metal clasps.

What is a wironit denture?

It is made from a metal alloy called Wironit, which is where the denture gets its name. It generally represents a higher-quality solution compared to acrylic partial dentures due to its built-in metal framework that provides greater durability.

This type of denture also offers increased comfort for the patient, as the surface area that rests on the palate and the area under the tongue is reduced. This minimizes the sensation of a foreign object in the mouth. Another advantage of the Wironit denture is that it attaches to the patient’s natural teeth. It is secured using precisely cast metal clasps, which provide significantly better stability in the mouth.

The main drawback of this type of partial denture is that the metal clasps used to attach the denture to the patient’s teeth are visible, which can be an aesthetic concern for some patients.
For those who find metal clasps unacceptable, we offer dentures made from Bio Dentaplast material, also known as acetal dentures. These are often referred to by patients as “silicone dentures.” In this type, the clasps are tooth-colored and much less noticeable.

Wironit denture for toothless jaws

A Wironit denture can also be made for a fully edentulous jaw, but in such cases, it must be anchored to the jaw using dental implants. The most common issue with full dentures occurs in the lower jaw, where tongue movement often dislodges the denture. This is why we recommend placing at least two implants in the lower jaw to ensure the denture is more stable and securely fixed. If a patient is unable to place implants in both jaws, inserting two implants in the lower jaw will still provide sufficient stability for the denture.

Depending on the attachment method, various prosthetic solutions are available, such as bar-retained dentures, implant-retained dentures, locator- or ball-retained dentures, and the Wironit full denture on a bar.

If you're unsure which type of denture would best suit your needs and budget, you can schedule a consultation. Our dentists will explain the pros and cons of each option in detail and provide a cost estimate tailored to your situation.

  • Digital impressions

We take precise digital impressions to ensure your denture fits perfectly and feels comfortable.

  • High-quality teeth

In the fabrication of wironit dentures, we use five-layered teeth that closely replicate the natural look of real teeth. For optimal aesthetic and functional results, we carefully select the shape and position of each tooth.

  • Bite alignment

We pay close attention to bite coordination to ensure proper distribution of chewing forces and maximum comfort.

Stages of making a wironit denture

We take a preliminary jaw impression using alginate. This serves to create custom trays that enable more precise impressions in the next stage.

Using a custom tray, a functional impression is taken that accurately records the condition of the mucosa and soft tissue movements, ensuring the stability and comfort of the wironit denture.

The bite height and interjaw relationships are determined, which are essential for proper jaw function and a natural facial appearance.

The metal framework (wironit) and temporarily placed teeth are tested to assess stability, aesthetics, and functionality before the final denture is fabricated.

The completed wironit denture is delivered to the patient along with instructions on use and maintenance, as well as the importance of regular follow-up appointments.

Common questions about wironit dentures

A wironit denture on telescopic crowns is intended for patients who still have some natural teeth remaining. These remaining teeth act as anchors, allowing the denture to stay stable without requiring palatal coverage or implants - meaning the denture base can be significantly reduced for increased comfort.

What are palateless dentures on telescopic crowns?

This type of denture attaches to existing teeth using telescopic crowns (double crowns). The primary crowns are cemented onto the abutment teeth, while secondary crowns are built into the denture and fit precisely over the primaries - similar to the way telescope parts slide into each other. This system offers excellent stability, making the denture feel almost like a fixed solution.

The crowns can be made of either non-precious or precious metals, while the secondary crowns are coated with composite. Even a small number of remaining teeth can provide sufficient support for a stable and functional denture, and each anchor tooth remains accessible for cleaning.

One of the main advantages of this denture type is its long-term adaptability - even if one of the supporting teeth is lost later on, the denture can often be adjusted with minor modifications to maintain function and aesthetics.

Our
patients report very positive experiences with this type of wironit denture.

The main difference between upper and lower wironit dentures lies in the anatomical structure of the jaw, how the denture adheres, and the design of the metal framework which must be adapted to these differences.

In an upper wironit denture, the metal base rests on the palate, providing a larger surface area for support and increased stability. This usually results in a more secure fit, and patients typically adapt more easily to wearing it. The construction can be thinner without compromising strength, thanks to the added support from the palate.

The lower wironit denture, on the other hand, presents more challenges. The lower jaw has less surface area for support, lacks the palate for stability, and is affected by the movement of the tongue and surrounding facial muscles. Therefore, the metal framework of the lower denture must be carefully shaped to prevent shifting during chewing and speaking. Good contact with the remaining teeth and a precisely contoured base are key to achieving comfort.

In summary, the upper wironit denture has a more stable foundation due to the palate, while the lower denture requires more precise fabrication because it depends on a smaller contact area and must accommodate more movement from nearby tissues.

Both are custom-made and individually adapted to the specific conditions in each patient’s mouth.
